Mike Hein has been the City Manager for the City of Tucson, Arizona, since April 2005. As the Chief Operating Officer of the city, he is responsible to Tucson’s Mayor and Council for the administration of city government.
Mike was formerly Deputy County Administrator for Pima County government, a position he held since August 2003. He has been involved with Southern Arizona local governments since 1991, including the Town of Marana, the City of Nogales, and the City of’ South Tucson.

Mike has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In the summer of 2001, Mike was selected as a scholarship recipient to attend the prestigious Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Mike has served on the Metropolitan Education Commission, was a member of the Tucson 30, and served two gubernatorial appointments as a board member of the Arizona Water Resources Advisory Board and the Greater Arizona Development Authority.
Mike Hein is Tucson’s 23rd City Manager.
