AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
Postage Paid Postcards Available to Identify Accessibility Issues for Persons with Disabilities
In an effort to create an ongoing awareness and better serve the Tucson community, the City of Tucson, through the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs and Independent Police Review, is asking for help from the public in identifying barriers to accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Postage-paid postcards are now available so that people can contact the City of Tucson to report accessibility issues such as:
Inside City Facilities
restrooms, doors, counters, paths of travel, elevators, and drinking fountains
Outside City Facilities
ramps, slopes, curb cuts, sidewalks, parking, paths of travel, and handrails
City Programs/Services/Activities
service animals, classes, meetings, voting, payments, and KIDCO
Eliminating barriers creates an opportunity for persons with disabilities to participate fully in City facilities, programs, services, and/or activities.
The postage-paid postcards are available at City Hall, City Council Offices, all City departments, the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs, and by phone at (520) 791-4593 or (520) 791-2639 (TDD). |
In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established to ensure inclusive and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in all aspects of American life. The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability and provides for equal access to education, housing, transportation and health care.
The ADA prohibits discrimination:
- In employment (Title I)
- In the provision of state and local government programs, services,
and benefits (Title II)
- By private businesses and other entities that operate places of “public accommodation.”
(Title III)
The City of Tucson is committed to ensuring that the terms and conditions mandated by the ADA are enforced within the City’s level of authority and within its jurisdiction.
By breaking down and eliminating barriers, individuals with disabilities have equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of community life. Most of all, the Americans with Disabilities Act enables society as a whole, and the Tucson community specifically, to benefit from the skills, talents, gifts, and other contributions of individuals with disabilities.
Filing an ADA Complaint
If you feel you have been discriminated against by an employer, organization, institution, or business entity within the city of Tucson city limits, please contact the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs (OEOP) at (520) 791-4593 or
TTY (520) 791-2639.
The OEOP will review your complaint and determine whether or not any action is required. If there is a need for action, the OEOP will investigate the complaint and issue its findings.
The OEOP does not act as an attorney for the City of Tucson, nor does it act as an attorney for, or representative of the complainant, the respondent, or any other party involved in the complaint.
