Since 1881, the Tucson Fire Department has been committed to serving the citizens of Tucson, protecting them from fire and other life and property threatening disasters, and providing emergency medical services. During FY 2003, that commitment did not waiver. In the face of a community-wide health care crisis, the men and women of this Department provided exemplary service to our community. The dedication of these professionals has placed the Tucson Fire Department among the nation’s elite in the field of emergency medical services. This year we were also faced with extraordinary challenges related to fire fighting, hazardous materials response, and technical rescues. Again, the Department met them all in commendable fashion. Finally, as our country strives to understand the roll of emergency responders during terrorist attacks, our Department has paved the way for other communities in the area of disaster preparedness, becoming recognized as a model for the nation. Now and in the future, the Tucson Fire Department will continue to strive to be the best Fire Department in the country and help the City of Tucson be recognized in its rightful place as a "Top 10" city.
