New GIS Cooperative Chairman
Two candidates for GIS Cooperative Chairman, Steve Whitney and Larry Cassen, spoke about their visions for the Cooperative's future and how they viewed the job of Chairman. Ballots were distributed, marked, collected and tabulated. Steve Whitney (GIS Manager for Pima County DOT/Technical Services) was named the new Chairman.
A presentation on thermal imaging was given by Barbara Grant of Lines and Lights Technology.
A discussion was spearheaded by Christine O'Connor regarding the desire to have the Cooperative focus on one or two major issues over the course of this year. The primary example given was Tucson Fire Department's need to enhance its mapping efforts. This led to discussing the whole E911/emergency response/homeland security ball of wax, in that TFD's desires roll into a bunch of efforts underway in these areas.
The subject of data needs was brought up, in terms of what are you doing, what do you need (data wise), and what is it going to take to get there, i.e. what are the line-level data needs. Comments pertaining to the data inventory and an associated sub-committee were heard. It didn't really go much further than this, but at least the thought was planted in folk's minds.
The concept of a master address database was discussed, possibly E911 driven.
