Agenda

1. Attendees introduced themselves and spoke briefly on their Organization, Position or Title, what they do and what projects they are currently working on and what GIS products or software they use? The Executive Board members that were in attendance were also introduced.

2. Presentation: “Sketch-Up” – Clinton Chiavarini & Anna Sanchez - Tucson Department of Urban Planning and Design (20 Minutes) Clint spoke about the department’s use of 3-D modeling software and how it works. He also demonstrated how they build models. They are working on a small pilot project in the downtown area with the help of an intern.

3. Old Business - ePortal update (Steve Whitney) The web portal subcommittee continues with user testing of the portal by local engineering firms. At the same time they are also starting to demonstrate the portal for potential users. Demos have been given for COT Development Services, COT Water and TEP. The feedback from these demos has been largely positive and has led the subcommittee members to other groups who would be interested in learning about the portal. Plans are being made to demonstrate the portal to the COT Utility Coordinating Committee and to the SAHBA Land Committee. The Utility Coordinating Committee members are representatives of utilities who service the area. The SAHBA Land Committee members are engineers and builders. These two groups are a large part of our target audience for the portal. We are also contacting the chairpersons of the Utility Coordinating Committee at Marana, Pima County, Oro Valley and Sahuarita to make all of the local governments aware of the existence of the portal.

4. Presentation: “Tucson Water eMap” – Bryn Enright & Bob Czaja - Tucson Water (20 Minutes) Bryn and Bob demonstrated the Tucson Water e-portal website. Marvelous Work! If you haven’t seen this site if would be good for you to take a look.

5. News: GeoDatabase Class (October), SWUG (October) Reminders of the upcoming events. GeoDatabase attendees need to “reimburse” the Co-op for the cost of the class by coming to one of the meetings and telling the Co-op what you learned in the class and how you plan on using you newfound knowledge.

6. Davis-Monthan Presentation - Cody Cohn GIS Analyst (20 Minutes)

    “GIS at Davis-Monthan AFB”

This was a very interesting presentation and overview of the Air Force GeoBase program, staffing, software in use, hardware and GPS equipment. They spoke about the Geodatabase model and Spatial Data Standards and training options. Products in use include ArcIMS, Map Books, ArcReader, Maps, etc. The GIS group at DM is doing a lot of work in support of the base.

(It’s amazing how busy we get when we show others what GIS can do!!)

7. Education (Duane Vild – UA) Topic cancelled

Open Floor

Now is the time to think about who or whom each GIS Coop member would like to run the Coop. The current chair’s terms end June 30th. Do we want one volunteer to run the Coop, several volunteers to run it, or some other suggested format, make your voice heard!

October Meeting 10-17-2006 - See you there!
