About the Metropolitan Education Commission

The Metropolitan Education Commission (MEC), composed of 34 Citizen Commissioners, advises, makes recommendations and serves as an advocate  in all areas as they affect the educational welfare of Tucson and Pima County. MEC’s goals include:

  • To empower and advocate for students, their teachers, and and their  families
  • To acknowledge individuals and groups within the community whose exemplary service to students and to education merits such special recognition
  • To promote graduation from high school as a first step toward an enriched future for students and a realistic sense of their place within the community.

On January 16, 2008, the MEC launched the first Regional College Access Center in Arizona! We are an information and referral center designed to serve Tucson and Pima County students and parents, with a special outreach to students from low-income households or who are the first in their family to attend post secondary education programs.

The Center offers a free online College Tool Kit at www.metedu.org/rcac, with local and national information about colleges, careers, scholarships, financial aid, and academic resources.

One-on-one assistance is available in English and Spanish consisting of computer searches and individual planning. Come visit us at 10 E. Broadway, Suite 10, call 520-670-0055 or visit our website for more information. Don't delay...access your future today!

We're moving

The MEC is relocating its office to
930 E. Broadway Blvd., near the southwest corner of Broadway and Euclid.
The move is effective June 30, 2009.

The phone number 670-0055 and the fax number 670-1110 remain the same.

“We are quite excited about this move as it gives the Regional College Access Center increased visibility and access,” said Dr. June
Webb-Vignery, MEC Executive Director. “It is a one-stop center designed to serve Tucson and Pima County residents with local and national information about colleges, scholarships, financial aid, and academic resources.”
