EL RIO THEATRE PROJECT PLANS FREE SHAKESPEARE PERFORMANCES
Tucson Parks and Recreation’s El Rio Theatre Project will present a series of 11 evening performances of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” to launch a second season of theater in the park.
Performances are scheduled for Sept. 25-28, Oct. 2-5 and Oct. 10-12 at the Himmel Park Outdoor Amphitheater, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd.
All performances are free to the public and begin at 7 p.m. Donations of $5 are suggested.
Attendees are encouraged to bring the family, a blanket and a picnic basket for an evening of theater in the park.
The popular tragedy recounts how Prince Hamlet exacts revenge on his Uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet’s father, taken the throne and married Hamlet’s mother. The tragedy explores the themes of treachery, grief, revenge and moral corruption.
