1,4-Dioxane Information
Evolving technology has recently allowed the detection of low levels of the chemical 1,4-dioxane in groundwater that is associated with TCE contamination. Though the United States Environmental Protection Agency has not established a maximum limit for 1,4-dioxane in drinking water, a "Health Advisory" level of 3.0 parts per billion (ppb) has been published.
No Tucson Water customers are receiving water with detectable levels of 1,4-dioxane, but we want all of our customers to be aware that in recent tests, we have detected extremely low levels of this contaminant in the plume of TCE contaminated water east of Interstate 19 and south of Irvington Road. This water is being cleansed of TCE through the TARP Superfund Project.
