Ambassador Neighborhoods Program Water Quality Reports
Tucson Water's primary responsibility is to deliver water that is completely safe and healthy, and that is acceptable to our customers in taste and other aesthetic qualities. To ensure that all of our customers are aware of the quality of the blended water delivered to volunteers during the Ambassador Neighborhoods Program, we have published the results of our Water Quality Monitoring Program here.
The monitoring program consists of extensive water quality testing for a wide variety of constituents, including round-the-clock monitoring for pH, temperature, mineral content, and chloramine level. The mineral content of the water expressed as TDS in mg/L is estimated from the conductivity measured on a continuous basis. Conductivity has long been used as a method for estimating TDS. Other constituents that may be monitored daily, weekly, monthly, or on a special schedule include water clarity, microbiological purity, iron content, and trihalomethanes, among other parameters.
The water delivered to the volunteers during this program was a blend of Avra Valley groundwater and recharged Colorado River water with a target mineral content range between 380 and 420 mg/L. This mineral content was selected to meet quality acceptability standards developed by customers during a series of taste and odor preference workshops held in 1998. This blend also is close to the quality of water that will be delivered on a long-term basis from Tucson Water's Central Avra Valley Storage and Recovery Project.
Tucson Water also monitors the entire drinking water system for many water quality characteristics. For more information about the quality of your drinking water, visit our Water Quality page.
