Thank You for Some Great
Conservation Conversations

During April and May (2008), the City of Tucson held a number of Town Hall meetings at locations both inside and outside of the City of Tucson in order to provide information and stimulate discussion with customers about additional conservation measures and how water efficiency impacts the water supply needs of the community in the decades ahead. Information was provided on the recommendations of the Community Conservation Task Force recommendations to Mayor and Council and the 2008 update to Tucson Water's 50-year water resources plan. Time will also be devoted to answering questions and discussion about the important issues that will shape Tucson's water future.

At the Town Halls, many customers of Tucson Water and other interested citizens of the region provided their perspective about water conservation in general and the 22 conservation strategies recommended to Mayor and Council in March 2008 by the Community Conservation Task Force (66 Kb pdf file; 7 pages). The Task Force, which represented a broad range of Tucson Water customers and community stakeholders, helped Tucson Water staff evaluate 123 possible water conservation strategies. Forty-eight strategies that were found to be feasible and appropriate for the Tucson community were then analyzed to determine potential costs and water savings. Using this information, the Task Force recommended a list of 22 strategies for implementation over the next five years.
